JJ Abrams Might Let You Be in Star Wars Episode VII

And just like that, it was as if a few billion fans’ voices cried out and were suddenly… well, they won’t be silent, that’s for sure. Not by a long shot. We’re talking Star Wars Episode VII here…

JJ Abrams, the director behind the now-in-filming Star Wars Episode VII, dropped a video this morning that gives fans a first ever glimpse at the Abu Dhabi set, a new creature/character (not CGI!), and the opportunity for a fan to be IN the upcoming sure to be legendary film.

Yes, even you can be a part of Star Wars history. They’ll slap some makeup on you, get you in costume, and you’ll get to meet the cast and crew of the most anticipated film in history. Will you get to stretch your acting muscles or utter a line? Unlikely. But WHO CARES?! Even if I my scene ended up on the cutting room floor like Bai Ling’s in Revenge of the Sith, I’d still be happy.

Of course, you’ll be up against some stiff competition. The good thing is that the winner is selected completely by chance, not by acting talent or by who you know in Hollywood. Just contribute at least $10 per entry at omaze.com/starwars to benefit UNICEF’s Innovation Labs to help kids in need. There are other stipulations to qualify, such as being at least 18 years of age and entering by July 18th, but that’s to be expected. Either way, the odds against you winning will probably much greater than your odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field (that would be 3,720 to 1). Of course, you’ll never have to tell me the odds. And I’m sure that won’t stop you from entering either.

Hmmm… The contest ends on July 18th, a week before San Diego Comic-Con. I wonder if the announcement of the winner will occur maybe at some as-yet unscheduled panel on Saturday maybe? I have my own theories as to what we might be able to expect in San Diego that weekend, but this would be the icing on the cake if that would happen.

So get your entries in now! They’ve got some great exclusive incentives for big supporters, including t-shirts, lightsaber hilts, signed scripts, and even an advanced screening at Lucasfilm or in your very own hometown! May the Force be with you! (even though I’m going to win…)
