Peek Inside Planet Express and more at Hulu’s Animayhem Activation – SDCC 2023
Hulu drew us into their Animayhem activation at San Diego Comic-Con 2023.
If you can’t enter another reality, in fact, another dimension (the 2D kind) at a place like San Diego Comic-Con 2023, where else could you do it?
Hulu, now the home for all content acquired from 20th Century Television in Disney’s Fox acquisition a number of years ago and mostly deemed a bit too “off-brand” for Disney+, set up shop behind the convention center and welcomed new their new nerdy neighbors.
If you ever wanted to sit on the infamous Simpsons couch or step up to the counter at Bob’s Burgers alongside the Belcher family, this was a dream come true for fans of the animated series. In that moment, we became part of the biggest semi-animated crossover since Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Once we passed through a mysterious portal, we were greeted by the alien Roger from American Dad and then shrunk down small enough to live inside a wall by the equally alien Solar Opposites. Once we paused for a brief chat with the spiritual form of Alanis Morrissette from The Great North, we were set loose to meet the Griffins from Family Guy and stepped into the futuristic world of interplanetary shipping with Bender, Fry, Leela, the crew from Futurama. I think the soon to end Archer was somewhere in there too.
With day-long lines every day of the convention under the blazing sun, it wasn’t something everyone was able to take part in easily, but it was worth it. For those of you who didn’t sneak a peek into this otherworldly experience, we grabbed some footage of our adventure to share with you.
